The memorial to commemorate the 52 people who lost their lives in the 7 July London bombings is to be situated in Hyde Park’s Lovers’ Walk, Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell announced. 

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport announced that the permanent memorial to the 7 July London bombings will be located in Hyde Park. The announcement comes after the results of a consultation with all 52 families, asking for their views on a number of proposed sites. Hyde Park was chosen by the families given its centrality, history and prominence within the city. DCMS will work with The Royal Parks to commission and manage the development of the memorial, which will be placed in an area known as Lovers Walk, in the East of the park close to Park Lane.

Families will continue to be consulted on the process of designing and building the memorial and a family group has been established, which will meet regularly throughout the project. All families will continue to be informed at key stages of the project.
